KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 12): Nova MSC Bhd’s indirect subsidiary EyRIS Pte Ltd has appointed leading Japanese medical devices and software solutions provider Topcon Healthcare Asia Pacific to distribute an artificial intelligence (AI)-based product to Topcon’s customers.

The product, known as SELENA+, will leverage on Harmony — an eye health screening solution developed by Topcon Healthcare which enables screening sites to be linked with eye professionals seamlessly.

The group said SELENA+ reduces the time needed to detect signs of diabetic eye diseases, namely diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration, adding that the detection can be done within two minutes of submission of the patient’s fundus images.

The solution was jointly developed by the Singapore Eye Research Institute and the National University of Singapore’s School of Computing.

Under the agreement, Topcon Healthcare will market and distribute SELENA+ either directly or through its distribution network in 18 countries in South and Southeast Asia including Thailand, India and Hong Kong.

“We are deeply humbled by Topcon Healthcare’s decision to partner EyRIS. It is affirmative of confidence in our product and the team of clinicians and technology researchers behind the product. We look forward to a fruitful working relationship with Topcon in the years to come,” said Nova MSC group chief executive officer Lai Teik Kin.

Topcon Healthcare managing director Leo Hiroshi Nagatake said the group is excited to work with EyRIS in Asia.

“We firmly believe the current situation of eye health [will be taken] to the next stage by having our innovative products put together,” Nagatake said.

Nova MSC’s share price closed 0.5 sen or 5% higher at 10.5 sen today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM108.02 million.
